Sugarloaf Golf Club: CVA/Sugarloaf Golf and Tennis Classic celebrates 25th Anniversary, August 21-23

Event has raised over $1 million for scholarship fund since it inception

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, MaineSugarloaf’s longest standing golf tradition, the CVA/Sugarloaf Golf and Tennis Classic, will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, as golfers from around the state convene at Sugarloaf Golf Club August 22-24. The event raises more than $50,000 annually, which in turn helps Maine students follow their dreams by attending Carrabassett Valley Academy.

The weekend’s activities include a golf and tennis tournament, as well as a banquet featuring live and silent auctions, where guests can bid on numerous items from vacation packages to gift certificates to autographed memorabilia.

The Classic was founded by Peter Webber, who was instrumental in the development of the Sugarloaf Golf Club and the Sugarloaf resort. The first event was held on the day the Sugarloaf Golf Club opened for play more than 20 years ago.

Since that first event, the Classic has raised more than $1 million for the Martha B. Webber Scholarship fund. Martha’s personal commitment to Carrabassett Valley Academy was a driving force behind the founding and development of the academy. The scholarship fund was established in her memory to help deserving student-athletes from Maine reach their athletic and academic goals at CVA.

“The Classic is a great opportunity to enjoy spectacular golf and support a great cause,” said Kate Webber Punderson, daughter of Martha and CVA’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations. “Through the scholarship fund we have been able to turn dreams into reality for a number of local kids, and keep the memory of my mother alive in our minds and in our hearts,”

The Classic tournament is open to golfers of all abilities, from serious competitors to those who just want to have fun on the links with friends. Golfers and non-golfers alike are invited to attend the banquet and auctions throughout the weekend. For more information or to register, visit www.goCVA.com, or call Kate Webber Punderson at 207-237-4470.

Specially priced lodging packages are available for Classic participants, with rates as low as $49 per person per night. Call 1.800.THE.LOAF for reservations or more information.
