Sugarloaf hosts USSA Junior 2 Olympics, presented by TD Bank
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - The top junior racers from around the world gathered at Sugarloaf this past week to compete in the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Junior 2 Olympics, presented by TD Bank.
Racers competed on the fabled Narrow Gauge trail at Sugarloaf, which has played host to numerous top tier races throughout history, including National Championships and one World Cup event.
Competition crews battled tough course conditions throughout the week, thanks to 64 inches of new snow at Sugarloaf in the past week and a half.
The Junior 2 Olympics is an annual national championship event that provides international caliber competition for 15 and 16 year-old racers in downhill, super g, slalom, and giant slalom events. The event features the top 80 boys and top 50 girls from three different US regions - the East, West, and Rocky/Central - as well as competitors from a total of six different nations.
Racers who capture titles in the TD Bank J2 Olympics will automatically advance to the US National Alpine Championships, where they will face competition from the country's premier alpine racers on the US Ski Team.
