Sugarloaf Perfect Turn to offer Alpine Touring Clinics

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (January 29, 2015) - For years, it has been easy to find some of the best downhill skiing and riding in the east at Sugarloaf,  and with the opening of Bracket Basin and expansion onto Burnt Mountain, the resort now boasts some of the best uphill skiing terrain right at the tip of your skis.

With the popularity of Alpine Touring growing in the ski industry, Sugarloaf announced that it will offer Alpine Touring Clinics this season through the Perfect Turn Ski and Snowboard School in partnership with Downhill Supply Company, beginning this Sunday, February 1, 2015.

Perfect Turn's ski and snowboard school is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). The program has been teaching skiers and riders of all ages and abilities to ski Sugarloaf for more than 50 years.

Perfect Turn will offer two clinic experiences, the Guided Experience, and the Instructional Experience. The first is geared towards individuals who have prior skinning and backcountry experience, and the other is designed for the first time enthusiast and will include instruction on how to use equipment and proper ascending strategies.

"The Alpine Touring Clinics are ideal for the outdoor enthusiast looking to get more out of their alpine experience." Said Tom Butler, Sugarloaf's Director of Skier services. "Our clinics combine the excitement of skiing Sugarloaf with the thrill of the wilderness in our sidecountry terrain on Burnt Mountain."

The Alpine Touring Clinics are designed for advanced or expert skiers only who are able to handle a variety of conditions on challenging terrain. Both clinics emphasize the uphill experience as much as the downhill.   Full equipment rentals are available through the Downhill Supply Company.
