Sugarloaf to conclude Maine ski season on Sunday, May 5

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (May 4, 2013) - After a long, cold winter that saw more than 15 feet of snow blanket the slopes, Maine's 2012-13 ski season will come to a close on Sunday, May 5, when Sugarloaf celebrates its final day of skiing.

Diehard skiers and riders will take to the slopes for one final time on Sunday, with forecasts promising bright sunshine and temperatures approaching 75 degrees. The resort will offer skiing and riding on more than 30 trails, with lift service available on the SuperQuad Skyline lifts. Sugarloaf opened for the season on Friday, Nov 9, 2012.

Sugarloaf was able to extend its season into May again this year thanks to heavy snow throughout the winter, consistently cold temperatures, and a heavy investment in new snowmaking technology, which allowed the resort make more snow than ever before.

"This has been a great winter from every angle," said Brad Larsen, Sugarloaf's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We enjoyed abundant natural snowfall right from the start, and our investments in snowmaking and grooming allowed us to continue operating later than any other resort in the state once again."

Lift tickets for Sugarloaf's final day will be just $49 for adults and teens, and $39 for juniors, and seniors.

Sugarloaf's summer operations are scheduled to begin late May, when the Sugarloaf Golf Club opens for its 28th season. The course was recently ranked as Maine's number one golf course by Golf Digest.
