Savoy and Dopapod to headline College Snowfest Week at Sugarloaf
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - In what promises to be one of the wildest weeks of musical performances anywhere in Maine this winter, Sugarloaf is set to host SAVOY, Dopapod, Spose, DJ Nugget, Waylon Speed, and more, plus Maine's largest beirut tournament during the resort's annual Bud Light College Snowfest Week, January 4-8, 2015.
The annual event draws thousands of college students from around New England and features nightly parties, high-energy musical performances, and discounted lift tickets and lodging packages for anyone with a valid college ID.
New to College Snowfest Week this year, the resort will host Maine's largest beirut tournament in the King Pine Room to kick off the week on Monday, January 5. The tournament will comprise 32 teams in a round-robin-style, bracketed championship, featuring multiple tables, and various cash prizes, plus live music by Pittsburgh-based DJ Nugget, while Green Lion Crew rocks the Widowmaker Lounge.
Anchoring the week-long festival will be SAVOY - one of the hottest electronic music acts in the country, whose live performances have been described as "mind-blowing" and "downright overwhelming." Featuring a dub-step sound as a foundation, the Brooklyn-based group blends indie and rock sounds to "bridge the gap between the concert venue rocker and the club-bangin partier," according to its website. Though the group formed just three years ago, it has already drawn numerous comparisons to electronic pioneers Daft Punk, and earned an invitation to Jay-Z's inaugural Made In America Festival.
SAVOY will close out the festival with a live performance on Thursday, January 8, in the King Pine Room.
The New-England-based Dopapod will headline Wednesday's King Pine Room performers, featuring their unique blend of metal, electronic/dance, and funk sounds. A staple on the college and music festival scenes, Dopapod has performed on many of the nation's largest stages, including Bonaroo, Burning Man, Gathering of the Vibes, and more. The group's infectious and sensory live performances have earned it a devoted following throughout the Northeast and Midwest.
The week will also feature live performances from Maine's own Spose, Vermont band Waylon Speed, plus perennial College Snowfest favorites DJ Nugget and Renegade Soundstation.
Admission to each nightly show is just $10, or free with any week-long College Snowfest ski and stay package. Wristbands that will grant access to the four nights of performances are now for sale online for $40.
Nightly performances in the King Pine Room are open to ages 18-and-up, while shows in the Widowmaker Lounge are 21-plus only.
Discounted week-long lodging packages are available to college students for as little $345 per person, and include five days of lift tickets, five nights of lodging, and access to all events and concerts throughout the week.
Two night packages are also available starting at $154 per person and include two days of lift tickets, two nights of lodging, plus access to nightly concerts. Single night packages start at $69 per person and include lodging and lift ticket only.
