Sugarloaf's King Pine lift Reopened today

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - Under partly sunny skies and intermittent snow flurries, Sugarloaf's King Pine lift, which received a new state-of-the-art load terminal during the off season, re-opened for the first time today. Following months of planning, construction, and testing, the lift opened to the public at approximately 9:30am.

The new load-terminal was designed and manufactured by Dopplemayr, at a cost of roughly $800,000-part of more than $1.3 million the resort invested this year in lift infrastructure upgrades.

"Today's reopening was made possible by our diligent and committed Lift Department," said Karl Strand, Sugarloaf General Manager. "This new terminal will improve the overall lift experience for our guests, and ensure safe and reliable access to some of Sugarloaf's unique signature terrain in the King Pine Bowl and Brackett Basin."

The new TRISTAR terminal, the same style as Sugarloaf's Skyline Quad, features a redesigned gear box and an all-new tensioning system, as well as the latest electronic, braking, and anti-rollback technology. Powered by a 400 horsepower motor, the new terminal runs at 450 feet per minute, with the ability to transport 2,100 skiers per hour. An additional 400 horsepower Cummins Diesel engine serves as an auxiliary power unit.
