Sugarloaf to help set world record for largest multi-venue ski lesson

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - At approximately 10am, on January 8, 2016 Sugarloaf's Perfect Turn Ski & Snowboard School will help to make history, as the non-profit Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month aims to set a Guinness world record for the largest multi-venue ski and snowboard lesson ever taught.

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, a snowsports industry initiative focused on introducing new participants to snowsports, and encouraging them to learn by taking lessons from professionally trained ski and snowboard instructors, by providing beginner learning programs, at affordable prices.

For the one day event, Sugarloaf's Perfect Turn Learn to Ski and Snowboard School will offer $10 half day lessons. For ages 3-14, the price includes lesson, lift ticket, and rental equipment.

Of the more than 140 resorts already committed, Sugarloaf is currently the only resort in the state of Maine, registered to participate.

"We're tremendously excited to be a part of the world's largest multi-venue ski and snowboard lesson record setting," said Tom Butler, Sugarloaf's Director of Skier Services. "With nearly 1000 years of collective teaching experience under our belts, The Perfect Turn program is staffed with some of the most educated and tenured instructors in the business."

The Perfect Turn Ski and Snowboard School is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI); educational organizations that facilitate examinations throughout the country and certify instructors from Level 1 through Level 3.

The program currently boasts twenty three certified level 3 instructors, 21 certified level 2 instructors, and 20 certified level 1 instructors, plus seven certified PSIA/AASI examiners within its ranks-the most of any resort in the East.

Since its inception in 2009, The Learn to Ski & Snowboard Initiative has taught more than 500,000 newcomers the basics of skiing and snowboarding. The initiative is supported and funded by national, regional and local associations and businesses in the snow sports industry including the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), SnowSports Industries America (SIA), and Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA)/American Association of Snowboard Instructors(AASI).
