Sugarloaf to participate in 10th annual World Snowboard Day

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -Sugarloaf Mountain Resort will join the international snowboard community to celebrate the 10th annual World Snowboard day, on the weekend of December 19-20, 2015. The resort will offer $10 learn to ride programs, for first-timers, through the Perfect Turn Ski & Snowboard School, as well as free snowboard Demos through the new Burton Signature Store.  

World Snowboard Day is a global event that aims to introduce new people to the snowport, and celebrate the camaraderie among riders.   The weekend event will feature a free showing of the Transworld Snowboard's new movie, Origins, on Saturday, December 19, at 4pm in the Shipyard. The viewing will be free of charge, and open to all ages.   

Sunday's activities will include the discounted learn-to-ride lessons for beginners, through the Perfect Turn Ski & Snowboard School, plus the free snowboard demos at the Burton Signature Store, as well as an ollie contest at noon on The Beach. The competition will be free to enter, and registration will be held, on Sunday, in the Burton Signature Store.  

Additionally, two-time Olympic snowboardcross gold medalist, Seth Wescott, with be hosting group rides regularly throughout the day.  

"Sugarloaf has embraced snowboarding since its earliest days, supporting pioneers of the sport like Seth Wescott and Mark Fawcett," said Ethan Austin, Sugarloaf's Director of Marketing. "We're excited to take part in the 10th annual World Snowboard Day, and help introduce new participants to the snowsport, both at Sugarloaf and internationally."     

Since 2006, World Snowboard Day has been a unique opportunity for the international snowboard community to promote the sport and its unique subculture by providing the general public with the chance to try a variety of activities for free. This event receives support from international organizations such as Outdoor Sports Valley (OSV) and the World Snowboard Federation in Europe, SnowSports Industries America (SIA) in North America, and CorePower Asia in Asia.   

In 2014, World Snowboard Day hosted 114 events in 30 countries around the world. Since the launch of this international event, more than 500,000 people have been introduced to the sport.
